HourglassRai's Art Gallery
To the west of Reveille, spanning C274 and C275, lies a veritable treasure trove of art and beauty. Earlier in the year, I was lucky enough to be shown around the gallery by the curator himself, RaiTheGuy07. Just listening to him talk about the artists behind each work, it was abundantly clear that he has a strong passion and love for art. For almost every single painting on display, he had some sort of anecdote about the artist, whether it was that he’d met them at a wedding or that they’d been the one to show him the ropes of the painting plugin.
Many of the artists whose works can be found in Rai’s gallery are tragically no longer in Redmont. Some of the paintings are the only traces of artists who joined briefly, only to go inactive. Reflecting on them, Rai said, “These pieces are legit all that’s left of them. Kinda weird to think about.”
So easily, these artworks could have been lost or tucked away in storage. But thanks to Rai’s efforts and curation of the gallery, they’re available for anyone to admire. And admire them, you should! The amount of detail that some artists are able to fit upon such a small canvas is astounding.
But it’s not just the paintings themselves that are worth admiring. The gallery itself, built by another inactive player called Adam, has a beautiful interior, rivaled only by the stained glass feature over the entrance. In total, the gallery is worth almost $500k from the combined cost of plots, the build and paste and the artwork itself. Rai estimated that around $150-$200k was spent on the artwork alone but says that
he’s “not even close” to filling the gallery yet. You can often see Rai in auctions, battling other art collectors in the hope of securing another piece for his gallery. It’s a testament to his dedication to preserving the history of art on DemocracyCraft and the admiration he holds for the artists who create it.
Rai’s gallery can be found at C274/C275 in Reveille. The nearest metro stop is Keswick Station and the nearest bus stop is Reveille Park West.
