Oakridge News NetworkOakridge Government Strike! What Does It Mean For The Common Person?

We are currently in the midst of another strike — yet again. This is the second strike in two months relating to one of the owners. It is unknown at the time what effects will be? However, the immediate effects, especially for Oakridge, are going to disrupt a lot of things. So what does it mean for the common Oakridge resident?
When a government goes on strike, all or non-essential services are not provided. This means that anyone that is trying to get services will not be able to will have to wait until after the strike ends.
However, some Departments on the Town and Federal level will continue to accept applications and other things which will not be processed during the strike. This will create a massive backlog that will have to get done after the strike is over. This will lead to longer times for anyone that wants to get something approved, or handled by that department. A major example of this is Oakridge grants, as applications will still be allowed to come in, but the people that decide the grants will not act on anything until the strike is done.
This article is not meant to suggest that the strikes are bad. Strikes are a good thing, as it shows the public that the government is against something that staff or the owners have done.
