The New Owner of Wax Wing News

I write this article with a line of cocatuk cut on my desk and a mug of coffee that has already become cold next to it. I thought I'd have something figured out by now. For the past couple of days, I go to the document, write something, then delete it shortly afterwards. I feel a particular kind of fear right now. A fear that comes from me being handed something too big for my hands. I fear failing, of course, but I also fear something else. I fear disappointing others.

I am now the owner of Wax Wing News. I still don't fully believe it when I type it.

A month ago, I joined this server. I wanted to bring gonzo journalism to a place that has never seen it. I joined the agency Another News Company. In my time with the agency, I would meet some people who I have become actual real life close friends with. Around the same time, I came into contact with a guy named Icarus. He said he liked the stuff I did with ANC and was looking for journalists for his company. I accepted to join his company, and after a couple of weeks in Icarus made an announcement. He wanted to give away ownership of the company to focus on real life stuff. Many people were offered the job but declined for one reason or another. I was then offered the job, he saw me as someone with a similar drive and vision for the company. So here I am. A couple of weeks ago, I was poor and doing freelance work for companies as a gonzo journalist, and now I own Wax Wing News. When he told me he wanted me to become the new owner of Wax Wing News, I was scared shitless, but in the same breath, also excited. It felt like I made it, y'know? A nobody who, for whatever reason, ended up owning a huge news agency.

What I want for this company isn't complicated, well, at least not as complicated as I am. I want to keep fighting for the things I think WWN has always stood for. Freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and articles that are actually worth your time instead of just filling space. I also want to
push for more communication. I want to know what everyone in the company is working on and also what people need from me. I want this place to not just be news, but be a place with real stories and real people behind them.

Thank you, Icarus, for being a good friend before you were ever my boss, and for handing me the opportunity of a lifetime. An opportunity I don't even deserve but got anyway. I hope to make you proud.
